World Book Day
Thursday 1st March 2012
Dress up as your favourite literary character and celebrate the joy of reading with A2Z Kids!
World Book Day was designated by UNESCO as a worldwide celebration of books and reading, and is marked in over 100 countries around the globe. The origins of the day we now celebrate in the UK and Ireland come from Catalonia, where roses and books were given as gifts to loved ones on St. Georges Day – a tradition started over 90 years ago!
Nowadays World Book Day is marked by schools up and down the UK through organised literary events, including book readings, writing workshops and, of course, dressing as your favourite characters from books, legends, or even film!
Take a look at some of the fantastic Book Day costume ideas we have for you below, and be sure to check out the World Book Day Fancy Dress section on the site for a plethora of literary and legendary character costumes for toddlers and kids!
